Published in 1998, the book "A Diamond in the North" tells the story of Northern Tier High Adventure, the Boy Scouts of America’s oldest national high adventure program founded in 1923. It covers the rich tradition of Scouting and wilderness canoeing at Northern Tier’s Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base. The history begins with the launch of the first trips from Winton, Minnesota. Later the lodge gets built, the Canadian program created, and the food and gear are adapted.

Published in 1967, the book Canoe Base provides a history of the Region Ten Canoe Trails and their successor, the Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base, owned by the Boy Scouts of America and operated by Region Ten. The program is now known as Northern Tier High Adventure. It is the Boy Scouts of America's oldest national high adventure program.
